    Canon 24-105mm f4L lens + Canon 1.4 extender

I do not know whether any member uses the 24-105mm lens with the 1.4 extender and if so what is the general opinion? I know that extenders are more often thought of with telephoto lenses i.e 70-200 f4 and above.

If any member has used this combination I will be interested in seeing some photos,if he/she will kindly post them.

    Many thanks
    Nathaniel

Extenders are only compatible with selected EF lenses, including the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, EF 70-200mm f/4L, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM, EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM and fixed length L-series lenses of 135mm or higher

Here's a list of compatible lenses: Clicky

You CAN attach a Canon extender to the 24-105 BUT you have to be very careful at the wider end as the glass will clash and may cause damage.

The only safe way I know is to place a Canon extension ring between the lens & the 1.4 extender ~ this will mean you will not be able to focus at infinity & the lens near point is moved forwards.

            Re: Canon 24-105mm f4L lens + Canon 1.4 extender

I have a Sigma 1.4, which is the same fitting as the Canon, and a 24-105. The only way you can attach one to the other is with a large hammer and a decent run up. That doesn't do a great deal for image quality, of course.

Being serious, this lens cannot be attached to the extender as the mountings are incompatible.

Quite right Woolley. I was perhaps foolish in thinking that it would be compatible. So far I have NOT even tried to fit the extender to the 24-105lens. Bob Turner sent me a compatible chart (thanks Bob for this) which put me right on this score.
