    Children's photos

This is more in Robert's area and perhaps some clarification is necessary. In the light of the present scandal about Jimmy Saville and other stories of similar vein that hits the media rather frequently, are the conditions laid down by the Editor still in force? I am referring to obtaining the permission of both parents to post pics of their children etc etc. How does this affect "street photography" when children are photographed by a member? What about wedding photography where one photographs not only the happy couple but also the page boy/page girl, flower girls

    Re: Children's photos

As far as this forum is concerned, you need the express permission of the parents if you plan to post images of children. Aside from any legal requirements, this is just common courtesy.

If you are taking photographs in public places and include images of children facing the camera, please do not post them (unless you have express permission from the parents of all the children included). The issue here is whether or not the child can be identified from the image.

If you are taking photographs at a wedding, shouldn't you be asking the permission of the bride and groom before publishing the images? After all, you are an invited guest to a private event.

None of the above should be interpreted as legal opinion; they are just the rules applied to this forum.

For expert opinion on using photographs of children for publication, you could start here:

Many thanks Robert. Thats quite clear. Just one more point. By "children" I presume any one under the age of 16 yrs, 18year or much younger? How would the forum describe some as "children"?
