Error 20, Error 30 How much will it cost?

Hi all,
I have an error 20 and 30 showing up on a 5D2 I just wondered if anyone else had had this problem and
if so how much did cost to correct. I know it's £60 per hour for service etc..............the big
question is how many hours. Any thoughts ideas will be most welcome.............I like the ones where
it does not cost lol. Thanks.

Thanks Andy. It's what you get messing with females, I mean female blackbirds ( my last pic on the 5d2) On the quite,
trying to convince the better half that I need upgrade shsssssssssssssssss. She's cocking a deafun at the mo but I'll
wear her down slowly.....lol

Perseverance is the name of the game, that and sad puppy dog eyes ... unless the Mrs has become immune to them, due to overuse.

Thanks for the info Andy. I looked at most sites for the code and it looks like a sticking shutter problem. The best fix I have come across so far is from across the pond and the photographer suggest a big whack! to the camera. ha, ha got to give it to them, a solution for every
problem lol. I will give it another go tomorrow if it's still the same off to the big hammer shop it goes lol. One thing I have found after taking
some advice, I measured the resistance across the batteries and the cheap ones, yes I know you only get what you pay for but I'm a tight
old git, anyway the resistance is very high on the cheaper batteries and very high on one in particular so I think this might be the cause. We will see when I charge everything up and clean up all the lens contacts. Need to get some alcohol and I do not mean the drinking kind lol.

There is a four-page article on EOS error codes in the January-March 2014 issue of EOS magazine. We suggest the following procedure for many of the errors. There is no guarantee it will work for every situation, but it costs nothing to try.

1. Switch the camera off and remove the main battery.
2. Remove the lens and memory card.
3. Recharge the main battery.
4. Re-insert the fully-charged battery, re-attach the lens and insert the memory card.
5. Turn the camera on.

Removing and re-inserting the battery can get rid of minor malfunctions which might have crept in with continual use.

Thanks very much for that info Robert, most kind. Yes the camera got quite a hammering lately. I am in the recharge phase of the suggestions at the moment and keeping my fingers very, very firmly crossed lol. Although I keep mentioning to her in doors that the 5D3 is a far better piece
of equipment lol I think flowers are in order now, maybe a surprise meal out lol. You can't blame me for trying. Thanks again

Treff; sometimes downloading the latest firmware or even re-installing the latest firmware may help.
Nothing to loose ..... latest 5D2 firmware version 2.1.2 download Windows or Mac

Well unfortunately, very unfortunately I believe the shutter is broken. No pictures at all now. So off to the doctors it will go and an arm and leg will be severed from my broken body lol. Thanks again for all help and info.

Well, I found out today the cost of my 5D2 repair. Nearly £300! New shutter and some other board needs replacing. I have been a professional photographer for almost 40 years and this is the first time I have had a shutter that needs replacement. To say I am disappointed would be putting it mildly. In fact I feel so strongly about this that I am going to change brands. In my opinion and after doing some research on the internet regarding Canon and repairs in particular to the 5D2 I find that the life expectancy of this model, I take into consideration here that I am now an amateur, is very, very short indeed. Made to wear out with a life span that just may reach the next incarnation. Call me old fashion but I expect a little more after spending nearly £2500. I have thought hard about this for quite some time so I will wish you all a fond farewell. I will not be posting on this site or any other Canon site. All the best.

Thanks guys. I forgot to add I have nothing against this site, some extraordinary nice folk here. I am just so p---ed off with Canon
at the moment. So into the dark side i tread or maybe just grey.
