    Printing advice

I'm looking at getting my boat sunset printed but as I don't do this often I'm a tad confused

How can I tell the scale size of the image in LR? so is it 6x10 8x10 ? I don't want to loose any of image so will need to print as processed

I'm afraid you're going to have to crop as the file size from the camera won't fit into 10x6/10x8
Without cropping you will have to use settings 9x6 12x8 18x12 any other you will need to cropping off some part of the image.
      I maybe wrong though ?

its not that I want to print a certain size Paul, its that I want to know the current image size as it stands

haven't got access to computer at present due to painting room but if you go to the library module, I think at bottom right near where the exposure is detailed, it also gives image size.

Do you use PS ? If so just go to image size which is in the drop down menus under Image in the top right hand side
            Hope that helps

yep use PS as well so exported it just to make sure I was looking at the right figures in LR and yep 4940x2652 or 20x11"

So daft question number two ( sorry I never print) if the guy says his printer will print up to 15" high that means I can scale up the image to be printed 15" by the longest edge ?

                Hi Ian,I see your point

Then all you have to do is right click the image and look under properties and it will tell you the actual size of the file in pixels.

                    Yes.
This will give you a 15in x 10in print (if you don't want to crop the image in any way)if you want or need to make the shortest size (10in)bigger or smaller it will result in a bit from the top or the side being chopped off.

Hopefully you're not restricted to certain frames as 15x10 are available from most frame makers with loads online.also remember the frame actually needs to be bigger than the image as there's usually a card mount so you'd be looking at (approximately) a 18x12" frame to take a 15x10 image.

I used to do all my own printing, but it's far cheaper to send it to a lab as the cost of Ink is a killer.

                          Re: Printing advice

I mainly have my prints 16x12 and do it all from Lightroom, in the develop module I crop my picture after selecting 4x3 ratio in the crop tool drop down menu then back to the Library module and export, in the export window choose the folder where you want to export to, Image format JPEG or TIFF, then choose the colour space that the lab recommend, image sizing in the drop down you can choose wxh, long edge, short edge etc and resolution, I use Pro- Am for my prints and they like the images to be JPEG with their Fuji colour space and a resolution of 402, if I have cropped an image so small that there is not the correct number Lightroom interpolates to suit, this works for me and I have always bee very pleased with my prints

I've never printed as I don't print often and its just not worth the cost - I have a colour printer but its just a basic one that I need to use when printing invoices for the accountant once a quarter ...bloody daft, I spend time and effort printing them, he stores them for a year I then have to collect them back the following year to hold onto for 2 more years - then burn, waste of effort, waste of time grrrrrrrr

I have given up trying to print from Lightroom could never get it to do what I want. I now always print from Photoshop.
