Use of filters

I am going away on holiday to North America later this month and I am packing some filters such a polarisers,ND etc. I often screw these filters on top of the UV filters already on the lens and there is a no vigitnetting etc. However, do members advice me to remove the UV/Skylight filter before fitting in a new filter such as polariser for best effect?

Ideally yes for best optical performance, but not at the expense of missing a shot.
