Today in our part of Pennsylvania, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, is Fasnacht Day. What is a Fasnacht? It is a German potato fried donut. Traditionally the Pennsylvania Dutch used lard, sugar, butter, eggs, potatoes and any other rich food to make these donuts to eat prior to the beginning of a austere diet for Lent. So this morning I headed down to the most hopping place in Easton this morning. The Easton Bakery for 1/2 dozen of these delectable treats:
