    Estuary Sunset

For the judges on here - N.A.B.S.

This tranquil evening scene was taken at Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk, UK. The camera was tripod mounted. The original scene was actually quite flat and the sunset disappointing, but I visualised what I knew could be achieved with some post processing.
I combined 3 shots with different exposures onto 3 layers on photoshop. Judicious use of layer masks allowed me to use a saturated and dramatic sky, transformed bronzed water and the shore and boats.

    Canon 1Ds2 and Canon TS-E 24mm f3.5 II. 3 shots around f18 @ 1, 3 and 5 seconds. Iso 100.

Tranquil is the right word and the post processing has worked well.

I am not normally a lover of borders, but yours tend to work rather well in their simplicity, without competing with the shot.

Thats a beauty, Scuff. The frame compliments it too, beautiful colours and great processing. A real winner.

                  I think its stunning.
Technically, way ahead of what I currently know how to do and its this sort of quality that will keep me learning.

                    Thanks Andy.
We are always learning, that's what keeps me at it as well.
N.A.B.S. - its a saying from judges. Because sunsets are so colourful and eye catching, there is a temptation to show a sunset without regard to composition and a point of interest. Therefore If shooting a sunset, I try to make it a part of a complete picture, not just a picture of a sunset. I'm not sure if I have explained myself properly, here is another example of what I mean.

                    Canon 1DX. Canon 24mm TS-e II. Canon 600ex-rt flash, canon STe3.

I prefer the 'cairn' to the boat. But NABS, humpfh I can't get enough of 'em. There's always something different. But no one has yet posted a 'green flash' sunset or have they?
