After seeing Tomh1982's windmill sunset shot it reminded me about a windmill that is about 30 minutes from my house so I thought I would nip out tonight to try and get a sunset shot. Unfortunately the sunset was in a direction that didn't really provide a pleasing composition that included the windmill.

So I changed tack to try and get a shot of the windmill from a different angle and came away with this one.

Like the DOF and the cool color temperature, just not sure that the fence works in this shot as it seems to overpower the main subject

It may not have the drama of some shots but it's a pleasant enough image.
I can see what you were maybe trying to do with the fence and leading lines.
Not too bad at all.

same as above, its not really working that well with the fence playing a large part of the photo ..sorry

Hi Paul;

Sorry; but same as above... I realise that you weren't after just a record-shot, so wondered if you could go wider than 17mm, closer to the fence at a more oblique angle, and have the windmill lined up right at the end of the fence. This would make the windmill smaller in the frame, but might give a little more oomph to the construction??? Just a thought...

I know this windmill well and as you say its not in the right place to get a good shot at sunset,So it means you'll have to get up very very early for a nice sunrise lol.

The thought has crossed my mind Paul may wait until sunrise is a bit later in the morning though lol

I quite like it Paul, it has good strong foreground interest and a clear subject further in. You could always try a square crop, or even a portrait crop would work too.
