    Torquay Harbour this morning

According to Arthur Hyde-Dendy, one of Paignton's great Victorian benefactors, Torquay was built entirely for the purpose of giving we Paigntonians something nice to look at. Torquay is, indeed, very photogenic.

This is a three image panorama of Torquay Harbour taken at 7 o'clock this morning. The early morning sun has yet to reach the boats in the inner harbour but illuminates the hill overlooking it. Later in the year, when the sun rises more to the south, the whole harbour will be so lit and it may well be worth returning to retake the shot. However, then the sun will rise an hour or two later so there will be more people about, fewer boats on their moorings and the big wheel dismantled for the winter so no reflection.

The wheel is lit at night so I may try for a night shot before it’s removed.

Incidentally, Corbyn's Beach, the subject of some recent posts, is in the left background.

    Cheers,
    John

Fabulous panorama John and nice explanation of how this will change as autumn approaches.

Nicely stitched panorama, John, I can't see the joins. We spent a week in Torquay in the summer and thought it was a little gem; you've chosen a great viewpoint perfect to see the emerging sunlight.

                            Thanks Wayne and Peter.

Apparently the sight of Wildebeest and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon are soon to be a thing of the past in Torquay as the Gleneagles Hotel, whose owner Donald Sinclair, provided the inspiration for Basil Fawlty, is planned to be redeveloped into upmarket apartments. Such is life on the 'English Riviera'.

                            Cheers,
                            John
