    Torquay Harbour Tonight!

I just couldn't go to bed without seeing what this morning's scene looked like at night so popped over to Torquay to take a few pics.

I shot at a variety of settings and settled on two as worth stitching even though the settings are miles apart. I can't decide between them so I'll post both. Let me know what you think.

    7D & EF-S 15-85 at 21mm ISO 160

    1.6 seconds f4
I like this one because the wheel is close to how it appears in the daytime.

    30 seconds f25
I like this one because of the sense of movement in the wheel and the star effect from such a closed aperture.

Very good John, prefer the second catching the movement in the wheel.

Nice again, John. I prefer the first, but that is partly because I've been on the wheel and I know it is rather more stately than whizzy. As a matter of interest, once the summer is over, the wheel over-winters in Hyde Park.

            Thanks Tom and Alex.

Interesting that the wheel goes to Hyde Park, thanks for that Alex.

            Cheers,

Nice shots for me the movement in the wheel adds to the shot so my pick would be the 2nd photo

                    Re: Torquay Harbour Tonight!

Like them both John, but it's #1 for me... it's the blown whites within the moving wheel in #2 that put's #1 ahead...

Looking at your settings, perhaps a mid-point exposure would resolve the blown whites????? You should get the 'starburst' effect a c. f/16-18, reduce ISO to 100, reduce Tv to maybe 15 seconds or so????? As always, ignore me as you wish !

                      Re: Torquay Harbour Tonight!

                      Thanks guys.

Good tips Lee and appreciated. I was, literally, 'shooting in the dark' last night so tried a few settings but doubt I tried yours. I thought I'd bracketing set but seemingly not - it was all a bit of a rush as that view is from a private car park and I was parked on double yellow lines. I'll return and try again though.

I did also have a crack at photographing the fair which is presently on Torquay seafront abut it was a miserable failure so more work required there too.

                      Cheers,
                      John
