    Porterro d' Espot

The Porterro d'Espot is a mountain pass at 2424m in the Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici. It links the Vall de Boi and the Vall d' Espot for hikers.

The ranger at the bottom told us that Franco actually declared that this should be closed - I can't verify that anywhere online but I'm guessing that if true it would be to stop folk from escaping into nearby France.

Interesting point about this park. You have to leave your car at designated parking places outside the park and use 4WD taxi to get you up into the more interesting areas. It is highly controlled what you can and mostly can't do but considering how pristine it is I have no problem with that. I sometimes wish we were a bit stricter here in the UK.
