    Southwark Cathedral

Popped into Southwark Cathedral last week after Christmas shopping in Borough Market.

One of the roof looking up:

One to get more of an extent of the roof:

And there was a practice for what seemed to be the Christmas service going on. So I left in some heads and bodies as I thought in this case they added context (though I did remove some in the centre seating):

Grateful, as ever, for comments and suggestions.

first two are excellent but the people in the third do rather spoil that one

            Re: Southwark Cathedral

Thank you Peter, Ian, Tom and Stan.
Peter, it is worth popping in, a very accessible cathedral, just pay £1 for a 'photo permit'. And yes, the trouble with any building like this nowadays is that I am racked with 'I bet Tigger would get something decent from here' pressure.
Ian, I can't believe I missed the verticals in the last one. I can only think because I processed the longer shot just before it, which I had consciously left the verticals as was, that part of my li'l brain had switched off.
And to Ian and Stan, normally I'd absolutely agree on the people (they've all been hacked out of the second by cropping), but to me for the third the choir practice and their view of the cathedral was integral to my intent of the image.

I like the symmetry of these sort of shots, have to agree with Stan on the 3rd shot

The first one is so nice it made me go "Oooh!" then check to see if Tigger had changed his forum name and avatar

Yes the first one is excellent
The second has some cropping, fringing and vertical issues but still a fine shot.
The third has some vertical issues but it's the foreground people that lets it down for me.

                Still, a nice set

                Cheers,
                John

                  Great set Alex!

At the end of the day Cathedrals are only there for people to worship... remove the people and what have you got? I admire the architectural perspective, but I also embrace the human element. Humans built it, worship in it, take photographs in it, sit and contemplate in it, gawp in it. Huh... people are important too.

Just thought I would chuck in a "Devil's Advocate" perspective there as well...

Agree with Richard a little bit, in that the people add rather than spoil the shot we have 2 images without any people so nice to see one with

                      Re: Southwark Cathedral

Paul, John, Richard, Paul, thanks for your considered thoughts and comments, much appreciated. So as well as kicking myself for not sorting the verticals on the 2nd, I somehow also missed the purple fringing, something I normally get a bit overly fanatical about. I clearly wasn't with it that day.
But, having taken all your opinions into consideration, in this case, the people are staying in the third. So there.
