    Birdling Flat, NZ

This afternoon I spotted an article on the BBC News (LINK) site about an Antarctic Penguin that had appeared on a New Zealand beach.

Having read the article it reminded me that I had actually visited the beach in 2014. I then decided to look in my images to see if I had made any images of Birdling Flats, I have quite a number none of which had been processed, until now.

I thought you may like an all expenses paid virtual trip to see the beach, enjoy the trip

#1 layers of sky, sand (pebbles really), sea.

#2 A Landscape, Seascape of the same subject in #1 above.

    #3 looking along the beach.

#4 It's definitely not a penguin, but I've no idea what bird it is, any thoughts on Identification welcome?

Four great shots Peter, simple but nice, perhaps the nearest I’ll get to NZ now! ID for bird not a clue, but from what seems like trailing legs something from within the Heron type family. The cars, bottom left?

New Zealand is a bucket list place for us. Light looks fantastic. Bird shape looks goose like.

You spotted the two cars Trev , I'll have to revisit the image to see if I can get some more features of the bird, when I was processing the image I thought it had a goose like head.

Thanks Anthony, New Zealand is well worth visiting just make sure to allow plenty of time to explore both Islands, I tend to agree about the bird shape, it did (from memory) have a goose like head.

I made a mistake with the name of the area it should be Birdlings Flat. But at least I was consistent, i.e. I got it wrong in the thread title, though I did add an "s" in the image frames, it's just on the wrong word

Trev, having searched for images of NZ birds I believe that this could be a Great Shag.
