    Bumble Bee

I had an hour to kill this afternoon so had a play with the macro lens and extension tubes, both shots hand held with 580 EXii + stofen.

Very nice maro shots, really sharp & good DOF, #1 is my favourite only because I can make the insect out a little better although love the composition of #2, I'm guessing a stofen is a flash diffuser.

Quite remarkable what detail you've captured!

Can I ask whether the flash was mounted on camera, or on an off-camera cord etc.? I would have thought being close for macro would prevent on camera flash being very productive, so a ring flash would be used! Happy to be proven wrong, as it opens up some macro try-outs in my own back garden!

Nice work Ian, love them both. #1 for me, as the detail just seems to edge #2. Although #2 does seem to be doing the okey-coky... with his left leg out!

        All the best, Mike.

Mike, the 580 was on camera, I find that as the 580 can angle down more than 90 degrees it works well for macro with a stofen which diffuses the light nicely. I often prefer the 580 to the ring flash (I have a cheap Marumi ring flash) as the light is not so flat and even

No 1 for the detail. With no2 the flower rather than the bee is taking centre stage
