    Squirrel Edit Demo

Thought I would post a before and after EDITING demo for all those needing to see what editing can do.
This photo was taken using a Canon 7D and Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 is usm
I have been very impressed with this lens which has been in my bag for too long.

    ISO 800 @ f5.6 1/250 shutter speed.

I started by using the Burn tool to burn the branch the squirrel was sitting on then burning bright areas in the back ground, as I thought these areas where just too bright
Then using the Blur tool I went over the background at 27%,this helps smooth the background.
Next I darkened some of the hair on the Squirrel using the Burn tool before applying sharpening to the Squirrel at 30% opacity with the Sharpening tool.
Subtle changes which I think benefits the image

Some people see editing as cheating but I think it plays a big part in Modern Digital Photography

I agree and I don't think it's cheating at all.

Well done for posting this, I only discovered the dodge and burn features 3 days ago. I can't believe I wasn't aware of such a simple but effective tool.

        Re: Squirrel Edit Demo

Editing an image by dodging and burning has been around long before the digital age. The famous Ansel Adams was an expert at it as he used that method to direct the viewers eye to she he wanted it to go.

        Nicely done Alan

Very skilfully done and not cheating, after all isn't photography an art form and can't artists include or leave out what they want, or make it all up completely?

Just shows, delicate editing, with subtle improvements. Thanks for showing us how you've done it.

I like the changes. Still on a big learning curve with editing software.
