Whale watching in Moreton Bay,Gold Coast,Australia.

Whilst in OZ I was able to watch some humpback whales in Moreton Bay, around the Gold Coast area. I must mention that whales (apart from the killer whales) are "people watchers"- something I never knew until I went on this whale watching trip. We were told that when we saw a whale that we should make as much noise as possible and very often the whales come closer to you. On this trip there was a guide on the top deck with a pair of" binocks" who, as soon as he/she sees a whale would shout out (using the 24 hour clock face) 11.30, or 14.20 and all of us would look in that direction.

Crikey Nat, you've seen some wildlife in your life time and all in its natural environment, an image doesnt have to be technically brilliant to convey a moment in time and these images do just that and with your narrative we get a feel for what it was like to be there well done sir

Nice images Stan, always like seeing whales. Spotted plenty when we went to Alaska.

Thanks Gordon and James for taking a look. Thought members might like to see something different. Perhaps explains why I do not like to see wildlife in zoos, and other confined places. I like the open spaces, the hunt and to capture wildlife on camera. However, I do not have the skill or the patience of someone like James to take time, compose and shoot a BRILLIANT picture.

                      That's pretty good Nat.

This was one of best I took on trip to Alaska

OK can't post image at moment

Have to hold my hand up and admit this was taken with a Panasonic bridge camera. It was this trip that made me decide to get a DSLR.

Shutter response was slow so BIF's were no longer in the frame when the shutter fired and low light performance was very poor.

Thanks Nat, was lucky really due to poor shutter response.

Thanks Bill. when is your intended visit to North wales- mentioned sometime ago? On this whale watching trip I learnt that whales are harmless but" people curious" animals; hence they are very easy" prey" to the Japanese whalers (and others) as the whales come up to the trawlers on hearing human voices! & are easily harpooned. Not fair at all.
