    Red Deer Stag

Went to Richmond Park to look for red deer rutting. Found this one but didn't get to spend too long with him as a dog chased him off. The dog owner was oblivious and couldn't care less!

Wasn't sure about the light grass in the foreground in the first image so decided to try a tighter crop.

    EOS 1DX, 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS II lens, handheld.

    Thanks for looking.

Well caught Brian, no problem with the grass

happened at Arne earlier in the year, a group of people with two dogs and like yours took no notice . We saw them a little later and the dogs were still off the lead

      Nice pics.

Your situation reminded me of an incident in Windsor Great Park a couple of years back. We were walking through the Deer Park and could see that a large herd of deer were wandering towards the path, obviously a bit wary but also intent on getting to the other side (obviously the grass must have been greener). It was quite busy and everyone on the path stopped and held back, waiting for the sight of probably 50+ deer crossing a few yards in front of us. Until a cyclist just obviously didn't give a **** that this was going to hold up his ride and bowled through, scattering them all to whence they came.

        Re: Red Deer Stag

I don't know why places like Richmond and Bushy Parks 'advise' people against walking their dogs in the parks during the rutting and birthing seasons. Why don't they just ban them, especially if not on a lead. Having said that, I've been to Richmond several times and have never seen a problem with dogs, though obviously it does happen, as you've already pointed out.
I find the biggest problem is with photographers who insist on persistently following the deer, then wonder why they occasionally become aggressive.

Top one for me . I think it`s all been said before about people / dog interference . It`s getting hard to avoid either .

Thanks for the comments. I don't follow the deer but look for those who are relaxed enough to be photographed. As with all wildlife, no matter where you are, if they start to look stressed back off.

It happened at Calke when I was there, you could hear a free running dog barking which we assumed was in the enclosure and having a go at the herd, then a bang...bang and it went quiet again. I won't BORE you with the details but it sounded like a no 12 was part of the solution.

I forgot to add, love the shots, though I don't think much of his camouflage

Reminds me of the 60's hippies look..... not that i remember them.
