    Preening Heron

Day 2 of the Sigma 150-500 lens test.
I did try to post my Day 1 findings during the night but the Forum wouldn't allow me but they can be seen in my Flickr photostream
Better light this afternoon so off I went to the river.
    Again this was hand held

Mike, is the neck area a bit soft or is it my monitor? Other wise a good shot.

Looks good to me. I like bright overcast light for Herons. Enough light to give a good contrasty shot with some saturation, but not too bright where it causes dark shadows and blown highlights.

You've really got it right with that shot.

I agree with Colin - that's about spot on IMHO.

Your shot really makes you notice the head feathers - can't say I remember seeing too many of those on Herons!

        All the best, Mike.

A very nice shot in a cracking location that suits the bird.

Mikeb they are not head feathers, it's a fascinator, the heron has obviously just been to a wedding!

Really nice image I think you have got the best out of this subject, must say I'm impressed with the sigma good combo with the 7d.

Came down stairs this morning to my Dad telling me he had seen a heron on a nearby house (probably eye-ing my pond) he's took a picture but forgot "zoom"

                Love the fascinator!

                      Thanks all
                      I'm quite enjoying the Sigma.
It does benefit from some decent light due to the slowish f6.3 at the 500 end
                      Would I buy one?
Well I think its a well built lens and good value for money so who knows? - perhaps in the near future

As a birdwatcher I appreciate the terrific images of our feathered friends on this forum and this is definitely one of them.
Well done Mike and keep them coming.
