First bird shot with a DSLR

Just bought the 7D + 24-105 and Mk II 70-200 f/2.8 lenses. This is my first attempt at a bird shot using the f/2.8 lens.

A difficult subject as the magpie is black and white.
You have done well and must be pleased

Thanks Stephen. I'm hoping to buy the Canon 2x extender soon to use with the 2.8 lens.

Very good for a first attempt but remember when you conpose / crop give the subject room to look into the frame, not look out of it. You could fix this one by cropping off around half the dead space on the left

whilst it will continue to autofocus on the 7D you will need good light to get the best from it and image quality will suffer to an extent. Better to go with the 1.4x

That looks much better. If you wanted to improve it more, then clone the leaves at the top and something that has now appeared on the right hand edge
