    Few BiF

Walk around Heybridge Basin this morning playing with the settings on both camera and the 300mm and still can't decide - note to self. . . write down the settings and when you change them so you can see the difference [shakes head]

    #1 - 1/800, f/3.5, iso 100, 300mm crop from a flock of?? (I'm a poet and didn't know it)

    #2 - 1/1000, f/5.6, iso 400, 600mm Gull - not sure which

    #3 - 1/1000, f/6.3, iso 320, 600mm Canadian Goose shot that I actually quite like

    #4 - 1/1000, f/6.3, iso 320, 600mm Tight crop from above

#5 - 1/1250, f/6.3, iso 1000, 600mm very quick 'grab' and tight crop, just caught him / her flying off with breakfast

    #6 - 1/1000, f/5.6, iso 400, 600mm Quite like the background here

So, that's a few of the birds in flight I caught today, not 100% certain about them myself but I am my own worse critic.

    Thanks for looking

Tight crop in #4 shows detail but is not an interesting image, IMHO. I like the last one, nice grouping. None of the others work for me. Sounds like you're not convinced...

Thanks for that - not sure if it's the settings / cr*p light / technique or what but something is niggling away at me - racing starts at the weekend so maybe being back in my comfort zone will help.

I think that's your answer. Are you taking photos of a subject that does not entirely grab you? eg "Gull, not sure which" - its a black headed gull, winter plumage. Your motorsport pics are great because you want them to be. These are not. Just a thought..

I like the crop (looks fat enough for the oven!) and the formation.

Sorry David there is not enough detail in any of them and the kestrel is flying away from you - -which is a bit of a shame
                good practice though
