    Green Woodpecker

I popped down to make the tea this morning & found this chap breakfasting on the lawn. He was so close to the house, I couldn't go out & had to take the shot through the kitchen window.

    Re: Green Woodpecker

Thats a lovely Photo but i think it needs the contrast and colour adjusted slightly and maybee slight sharpening to the bird.
This is something i have learned from other Forum members which has helped improve my final images.

Thanks Nathaniel & Tom. Tom, if you have time, by all means have a play with it - I'd be really interested to see what could be done.

                  Nice shot Russell.

Hope you don't mind, but I slightly altered the contrast, colour and added a little sharpening. (Only very slight, is it any better?).

                    Re: Green Woodpecker

I would be inclined to shoot with more like 5.6 which would give more separation of the subject and the background as would a flash help separate.

Good spot, keep working at it as nothing beet practice

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Andy I've no problem at all with you adjusting the image, thanks for taking the time. To my untutored eye, my second attempt is fairly similar to yours.

Brian, this one is shot at F5.6 (though I've probably oversharpened it)

I'm afraid I couldn't use flash as I was shooting through a double glazed window, and couldn't have gone outdoors without frightening it away.

You are very lucky to get such a close shot but I still think the contrast needs increasing, the black on the side of the head is a much deeper black on this species. I don't think sharpness was a big issue on the original but the increase is a slight improvement overall.
