              Thanks for the kind comments, everyone. I thought for a moment that I'd finally captured an elusive kingfisher in a nice pose but the beak had me rightly worried that it wasn't one. Anyway and as you've pointed out, it is a pretty bird in its own right and it was interesting researching its true name, as I'm new to this game.

              I did actually manage to get a couple of shots of a kingfisher that day, but not that sharp as I panicked at the sight of them as we weren't in a hide - ended up shooting it at 1/125 @ 400mm without pausing to check the settings - not a good combo! Once it saw us, it quickly vanished, of course.

              I've mentioned before that if you are ever in Thailand, the abundance of birds of a feathered variety are well worth a visit at Bang Pra, just an hour out of Bangkok. Its completely free and seems to get hardly any visitors, so the bird watching is a real treat.
