    Ringed Plover? @ Titchfield Haven

After painting the beach hut at a nearby beach, had an hour at Titchfield Haven yesterday - light not easy as directly on the shore - a small group of ringed plover? was on the shoreline - waited for one to separate from the group - the bird would not turn sideways onto me - next time! Very nervous birds and waited for the group to approach me as they worked along the tide line. I like no 1 best

    1DX + 600mmMKII + 1.4xMKIII used for all the images

    Regards John

It's a shame the legs are crossed in #3, otherwise with the splashing wave & the "attitude" it would be my favourite. A good set though John. I'm not 100% sure of the ID. The Ringed Plover has an orange beak with a black tip and orange legs, whereas the Little Ringed Plover has a black beak & pale legs. But the Ringed is resident down south. I'll leave it to the experts.

My feeling is this is ringed plover. Suspect this is immature.

IIRC from bird watching days leg colour etc a guide but also white band that runs round head over the eyes indicates little ringed. Eye should also be ringed in yellow on little ringed as well.

Bird in your image doesn't seem to have these.

All stunning images , lovely colour, sharpness and detail.
The splashes of water help show just how small the bird is.

Thanks Russell and Tony - I am not a birder so I wasn't sure - just liked the way they moved and blended in with the pebbled beach - I have zoomed in and cannot see any yellow around the eye - Regards John

Many thanks Alan - yes it is small - similar size to the turnstones that were on the same stretch of beach - Regards John

Re: Ringed Plover? @ Titchfield Haven

I think it is definitely a ringed plover which lose the red in the beak in winter and as said a little ringed plover has a yellow ring around the eye and is a little smaller

Thanks Stan I agree - I have looked through all the images and no sign of a yellow eye ring in any - so its a ringed plover - Regards John
