    Decoy Duck

I'm not sure of the species, but this guy preferred to come in out of the rain today ...

That is an amazing looking duck but it looks a bit "wooden" and lifeless, rather tight in the frame and the background water just a little too smooth.

            Re: Decoy Duck

Thanks guys, I'd hoped it would raise a smile.

But there was a second purpose. I know a little about light in a theatrical context, but less than zero about light in terms of flash photography.

So I've been working my way through Syl Arena's Speedliters' Handbook. In this shot I had an on-camera (no choice at the moment) 600, and a slave 320 at about 290 degrees. Overall I'm not too displeased with the lighting. WDYT?

Sorry about the crop Stan - I had only a very small blue background!

And finally, don't buy the Kindle version of the Handbook! You can't zoom the illustrations, many of which are disconnected from the related text, and many "standard" photographic characters such as 1/1000 must have been implemented as images as you can't zoom (& therefore in my case at least) read them. Splash out the extra and buy the hard copy.

Looks like you could get a lot of fiber if you make a meal of that duck
