    Chiffchaff?

I was at Titchfield Haven yesterday and everyone was looking for the Cetti's Warblers, which could be heard, but not seen. I thought I'd managed to grab a shot of one, but once it was on the big screen, I had my doubts.

Now I think it's a Chiffchaff - anyone able to confirm?

Assuming colours are correct then its rather green for either species. Considering that I still think you guess is correct and this is chiffchaff/willow warbler.

      Hi Antoeknee

The green is straight out of the camera, and it alerted me to realising it was not a Cetti's. It's possible it's picking up some reflection from the willow it's perched on. Willow warbler or Chiffchaff? There's little to distinguish them apart from the song, and I can't really offer evidence on that, there was a lot of song going on!

Thanks Bill & Alan. My Collins says that the call is the only real distinguishing factor between the two, and I'm afraid I can't say what this one's song was like. But one thing is certain it's not a Cetti's!

              Re: Chiffchaff?

Differentiating between chiffchaff and willow warbler very difficult and even in the hand (when ringing) its not the easiest as your looking for difference in some feathers in the wing!
