    migration has started

    my first wheatear of the autumn today .and a dotterel has been reported down the coast hmmmmm

            Ace! Watched a pair of these on the south Gower cliffs today, thinking they were preparing to migrate. Was travelling light and the24-105 wasn't able to pull in anything like a decent shot, so am delighted to see yours. You've captured the colours well, including the bit that had them known as white-arses in pre-Victorian days before their name was Bowdlerised (passed by the church yard where he is buried on the way back from seeing the birds).

              Saw then locally a couple of months back and on the Farnes but none recently so thought they had long left

                usually the first migrating birds to be seen along these coasts stan .they appear in spring head further north to breed then return in the autumn before heading away doon sarf
