    Red Kite

First go at photographing red kites in flight with my new lens.
Not as easy as I thought.
Had many failures using single centre spot metering , but hit rate increased when I changed to expanded centre spot metering.

    Shame about the clipped wing.

Processed with slight noise reduction and lifted the shadows slightly.

    Re: Red Kite

great detail on the head and gutted for you over the clipped wing !! not sure about the vignette effect

I've tried to take photos of kates here but they are always way out of range - looks like you've nailed the exposure

Quite right Ian about the Vignette effect, a wee bit over the top.
      Thanks for commenting.

        Re: Red Kite

I'm sure the bird photographers will offer more advice but you've done well - was this a wild Kite?

          Re: Red Kite

All wild kites Ian, although they congregate at a feeding area in Galloway were they were reintroduced many years ago.
You've just got to separate the ones that have ugly tags on their wings.

even more impressive then Alan - I won't embarrass myself by posting a photo I tried to get - I was driving through the mountains and saw about 30 flying above me and pulled over watched them, amazing birds

Good detail and poses, what a shame the wing is clipped on the first

Great set with excellent detail. I quite liked the vignette effect (maybe just a hint would be good)

                      Thanks Stan, Alan and Bill.
The vignette was only put in because I thought the background was just too plain Dave.
I just over did it, it's not everyone's cup of tea.
