    Little Egret

Didn't realise their feathers were so............well, erm, feathery.

Bit of wind on a cold miserable morning in Menorca, and he was looking slightly ruffled

not that I know a thing about bird photography but a white bird against a dark background, not an easy thing

you caught it well but the direct upload here looks a little noisy / soft ?

didn't think you had those over there

Not the best of light although the exposure looks OK there is little detail in the feathers

As Ian says direct upload is not the best way to post on the forum - shots will look much better posted from flickr

Yes you're right, i was just thinking that.

I was happy with the sharpness and clarity on my screen. The problem arises when I squash down to 800 pxls width for posting.

This isn't the first time this has happened and I'm not sure how best to prepare images here for the small resolution, perhaps someone could advise me. As yet I have avoided a flickr account but it seems that's the way most other forum users have gone.

Sharpening is always the last thing to do so if you are resizing the image for posting you may have to apply a little more sharpening before saving. For some reason, direct upload here always destroys the clarity of an image so as said flickr is the way to go - although you sometimes get an oversharpened image from there but that is much better than soft

BO, a good capture and agree with the other comments. The only thing on my monitor is that the whites look a bit overblowing. I always have difficulty with Little Egret shots mainly because of the "whites"!

                    Re: Little Egret

joining flickr is easy bo ,just register a yahoo e/mail account and you can join straight up .tis easy upload to there at a larger size whatever you want really although i find that any variation of 1024 pixels is best i.e. 1024,1536,2048 then when you download from there choose 1024 as your option size ,it makes the pics sharper .

the egrets go fluffy when they go into breeding plumage as this one is ,they also get a purple patch on there beak
