    I really like the shot, but is his eye really just a black hole?

      Hi Ian, There is a pupil but generally a dark eye. Think it could do with pulling out (lightening a bit, not the eye!).

          Never apologise, reson for joining the forum is for advise and inspiration. I've had both. Your absolutely correct about the eye. Keep all comments coming and maybe i'll end up with a "Wow"

            A catch light would have helped. If your camera has a pop-up flash it's ideal for putting a catch light in the eye without having too much effect on the image. You may even be able to turn the output power of the flash down if you are close to the subject.

              I think it's just the wrong angle in poor light ,,I,m assuming you pulled up the shadows a fair bit from the darkness of the neck .better light and a lower angle p.o.v would have helped.
              Your thick legged beetle on Flickr is superb btw

                    Nice shot Neil. However, it is always the constructive comments by members like Ian which makes this forum such a worthwhile place to be in. I am also learning by reading the C&C's of our experienced members.
