    Lee Valley

Lee Valley, Essex. You can lose a day with no problem at all. Posting here as it's a mixture of shots.

Couple non racing attempts at the weekend, be glad when the new head for the monopod arrives from the states, handholding the 'beastie' really gives a good workout lol.

    1dx & Canon 200-400

#1 After the chicks / eggs in the reed beds (only saw her for about a minute before she vanished again)

#2 Not keen on the angle but at 560mm I had to at least try against the bright background

#3 Everybody was kung fu fighting (song there somewhere) both the coot and the moorhen had a chick nearby and neither wanted to give up the bank / water space

#4 another mom with her 'Darth maul' chick, the Grebe's seem to have done really well this year which is good to see.

Thanks for looking - will never have the skill or patience to be a wildlife photographer BUT it doesn't stop me enjoying the challenge!!

Well done David youve caught the action very well.

Out of curiosity (I know it killed the cat) what head are getting for your monopod?

              Thank you one and all.

Peter - met a guy off another forum at Brands Hatch and we got to talking about monopods etc and he went and got his set up for me to check out - I fell for it there and then, have found a UK stockist but have to wait for the lens plate to come in from the states. all the reviews talk about mounting this to a ball head but Alan had his mounted directly to the monopod and it just felt right so I have one on it's way in a week or so THIS ONE one word of advice - DON'T watch the video on that web page with the sound up - I nearly slit my wrists after the first sentence!

Loads of gimbal mounts ar Farne last week. Saw one guy, Dutch I think, had a 500 f4 mounted on a 1DX. Had a very substantial tripod with a gimbal, this was being carried by what I assume was his wife.

If I suggested this to my better half I suspect I'd have to get the 500 surgically removed!
