    Kestrel 11-06-15

As you'll have seen from other posts I've been away on holiday for a week.

Been back to check on the kestrels, last time I saw them they were balls of grey down. In a little over a week they have changes a lot

Was a bit concerned as I could only see 3 chicks however a bit later they moved about and could see all 4
Kestrel 11-06-15b by tblake2007, on Flickr

And then looking as images from yesterday was surprised to see there are actually 5 chicks

Bit better view today of them all

You'll notice the chick on the left still has a lot of down. It's likely this is the youngest, eggs are usually laid every 2 days so this could be up to 10 days younger than the eldest.

Don't see adults much, with 5 chicks to feed probably not a surprise that they are of hunting all the time.

Did spot male having a quick nap, looks like he'd recently brought something to the nest looking at his feet

I do really like the 4th image which is nicely balanced in the circular frame.

I think why it works is the catch light in the eyes.

Must be plenty of prey to have 5 chicks. All times I've seen prey brought back it's been a rodent. Now the chicks are getting bigger I think the adults will start to catch some of the young birds.
