Short Eared Owl (captive)

I don't normally post images of captive birds but went to the Hawk & Owl Conservancy, Andover last week just to keep my eye in and was quite pleased with this. It was taken amongst trees so the light level was a bit low. Increased the ISO to 1600 to get 1/250 sec at f5 and was amazed at the result given it's quite a crop. The 1DX with a 300mm f2.8 L IS II lens is a great combination even with a 1.4 III TC attached. It's also hand holdable as is the case in this image.

HCT was where we honed our birds in flight skills and were members for five years but have not been for a long time now
