One thing you notice in Shetland is the widespread distribution of Fulmars. They are where you would expect them in large numbers i.e. on the main high cliff sea bird colony areas such as Hermaness and Sumburgh Head, but they are abundant in smaller numbers on lesser cliffs and especially small seaside quarries even down to a rock ledge just a few feet above the beach. These birds seem much more approachable and from a much less exposed situation, here are some taken on a small rock and grass slope immediately adjacent to the small ferry terminal at Belmont on the Island of Unst.
