    Goosander

A small flock of female and juvenile Goosander spent a couple of hours in the tidal lagoon behind the Church and Inn at Glenelg, Wester Ross. I couldn't get a clear shot as there were too many trees in the way but they suddenly took flight and gave me an opportunity for a couple. These large Sawbill ducks spend a lot of their time with heads in the water looking for fish to catch before diving, rather than diving to search like a cormorant or grebe.

A closer look reveals why this species is classified as a "Sawbill".
