    My whole philosophy for any wildlife I shoot and subsequently process is "could this work in a photographic competition" - not that most would be so used, its more of a check list and there are 3 main areas

    1 is the subject sharp and detailed
    2 the composition
    3 is there anything in the background which draws attention away from the subject

    These are not just my ideas but have been learnt from reading books, articles in photo magazines and membership of different forums over the past 8 years, most being specialist wildlife forums. As far as natural is concerned, all my images have natural backgrounds, its just that I try to pick vantage points so that any trees or vegetation is sufficiently distant from the subject that it is rendered as a complete blur

    Wildlife and bird images we enter into competitions more often than not receive marks between 9 and 10 and have helped us win somewhere in the region of 40 trophies over the last few years (hope that does not sound big headed, not meant to)
