    Accidentals

The Azores is about 1000 miles from mainland Europe out in the North Atlantic. As such it isn't on any migration route but it does get 'accidental' birds from both Europe and America.

While we were there we were lucky to see

Glossy Ibis, most likely from Europe

and Spotted Sandpiper from the USA

    Again both very large crops.

There was also a Double Crested Cormorant but only seen through a telescope and American Robin which we didn't see this.

And this is full frame of the Ibis

Of course there was some post processing that wouldn't have been possible with JPEG.

                  Thanks all for comments.

Whilst we were looking at the sandpiper and cormorant a car stopped and a couple of people got out with binos. So we told them what was about. It turned out they were American and saw both birds all the time where they were from!

Great work Ant. The RAw images are very compelling. Somehow, I wouldn't have the confidence to crop to such an extent as you have done. Once again, much impressed.

It's really a matter of trying, I've learnt a lot over past few month.

There are some things to consider: a low contrast image is unlikely to be cropped to such an extent. Not sure the images from my 60D could be cropped quite so much (not tried it though so could be wrong). Whilst RAW does allow for some good PP, if the image needs a lot of work it's quite possible this will show in large crops, noise, etc.

For these two images I think the quality of the original images was a factor.
