    First attempt at Pied Wagtail

I was in The Cairngorms & this was on the site near us so thought I'd have ago, take with 70D & 70-200F4 IS L, I found they move very quickly & that my lens is just not long enough so had to crop this quite a lot.

Nice and sharp despite the cropping. Well done. Yes, they never sit still and keep on flitting around.

Re: First attempt at Pied Wagtail

Thank you Jeff & Ian for your comments, I felt I was just lucky because I had some bright sun behind me! I would like to do more but my hand holding of the camera is not always good but I did try to keep the shutter speed quite fast after reading what others have done on the forum.

I find the 70-200 is not long enough most of the time for capturing birds unless they are close so having to crop such a lot is not always possible because they sometimes look rather blurred. I have been thinking of changing the lens to a f2.8 with IS but the weight aspect puts me off because i would still have to add an extender. So not sure what to do for the best.

What about a 300mmf4 light and stabilised and takes a 1.4 nicely

Very nice image and I'd second Jeffs recommendation re the 300. Was my main lens for wildlife, with 1.4 TC, until I got the Sigma.

If you are thinking of changing your lens I would highly recommend the Canon 70-300mm L IS USM lens which is lighter than the 300mm f4 prime (an excellent lens which I had but due to it's weight I parted company with it). This has the advantage of shooting at 300mm most times and also has the facility to shoot at closer range, being a zoom lens. I use this zoom and am very happy with it.
