    Juvenile Kestrel

Here is a young kestrel enjoying herself, turning quickly over the wild flower meadow at the HCT. Taken from the wild bird hide and needed 1/2000sec to stop the motion. It also neded a 500mm plus a 1.4x to reach her.

The Barn Owl was magic and so this cannot be any less.
Detail, clarity, what more can you say..

The light has really made the feathers sparkle and bring out the detail

She was so quick, darting in and around, that I suspect only a 1D or a 7D could have stayed with her .................... assuming you could keep her centred in the viewfinder.

Very nice capture again Colin. Did you have exposure compensation on the + side or is it my screen?

                Hello Stuart.

I shoot manual and metered on a nearby patch of grass, so with respect, it is your screen. It looks fine on mine, which is calibrated every fortnight.

It may be my eyesight but is there a halo round the wings?

That makes this photograph even more good in my opinion! I know how difficult it is to get the exposure right in manual on a moving target, and you've exposed for the highlights perfectly!

You are very kind Stuart, but the only difficulty with shooting fully manual, is to recognise when the light changes and change settings accordingly.

I am fortunate, in that I don't find that difficult, but a very experienced friend of mine often gets caught out with light changes, because his mind is completely focussed on the subject. It is only when the action has finished, he will check exposure again, either by pointing to grass, or a hand held incident light meter. If I hear a few expletives, I know he has got it wrong.
