      And the goldfinch isn't gold either.

        In all British Hardbills there are two feather forms ie yellow and buff and depending which variant it is can have a dramatic effect on the colour of the birds , this one is a " yellow " as a buff male Greenfinch would have a much duller washed out colour. The variations are much more noticeable in Greenfinches and Bullfinches.
