Goldie on a feeder - lens test

I am beginning to get to grips with my new toys, the 100-400 II and the 1.4x III converter.

Although this is a bird on a feeder (pace Stan), I have not yet had the opportunity to venture further afield with the new kit, so this is all I have been able to test on.

Some shots have been OK and some not, but I am pleased with this one.

Nicely done, John. It's a great combo. My recent postings of grey heron, swan & the moon(!) were taken using the same kit (with 80D).

Excellent quality John. I've always been reluctant to put an extender on a zoom lens. But then again my most successful image in competition was taken through one way glass, so what do I know?

It does slow the A/F down a bit, but nothink like the x2, but I used it on the most of my Kingfisher shots, and use it on the 100-400 and 70-200 all the time.

As already said, you cannot complain with the quality of that image.

Looks pin sharp to me... Was this manual focus, or AF?

Thanks to all who have viewed and commented - I think the lens/extender combination will get a fair bit of use!

This was AF - I have to disagree with Tony's observation regarding the AF being slowed by the extender - I did not notice that at all
