    Re: Gannet

Only 9 more sleeps till our visit to Bempton. :) It’s a lovely shot. What lens did you use, Stan? I am worried about getting close enough to get good pictures.
    Regards,

When you take the path from the visitor centre to the cliff top, turn right and head for the furthest viewing point. If the wind and thermals are right, then the birds will be flying more or less at eye level and very close. All my shots were using my 300 f4, although in past visits I have also used my 70-200 and 1.4x which in some cases i could have done with this time as even at 300mm, I sometimes could not get get the whole bird in the frame

Wow! Thank you so much, Stan. I was planning on taking the 100-400mm and 1.4x converter. Perhaps I should pack the 70-200mm as well now. Thanks also for the directions.

That is a lovely shot Stan, the sort I like, the bird backed by a natural setting - excellent shot

                  cheers guys

It took quite a while to get the clear shot as most of the time he had his head buried in the plant as he ripped off the stems
