    Avocet Pair

First day of the new season at Brownsea last Saturday, bitterly cold and no sign of the red squirrels but a fair flock of avocets on the lagoon

Really nice, Stan. I've never managed to get a really good shot of avocets - whenever I've gone anywhere to see some, they've always been just a little too far away.

Hundreds overwinter in Poole Harbour and a fair proportion make their way to the Brownsea lagoon to feed and often they are well close enough to get them a good size in the frame

too many to choose which to shoot

They were over the far side of the open field but as soon as they saw up go up into the woodland, over they came and before long there were around 20 of them but there were no red squirrels anyway

My brother lived in Swanage for a while and though we visited, we never made it to Brownsea, drifted past it in a boat fishing a few times, is Whytch farm still working? I applied for a job there years ago, but ended up in Scotland instead.
