    Kestrel Update 02-05-2020

Have been visiting the site over the last few days but colder weather meant nothing much happened. Today was a bit better with brief periods of sun.

Female still sat incubating the eggs

Sudden arrival of the male caught me off guard but he turned up with prey. As luck would have it the sun was back behind clouds. The really interesting thing here was that the male had brought a bird for her to eat. This is not something I've seen in all the time I've photographed the birds.

The female was not interested in the prey despite the male offering it to her 3 or 4 times. He may have brought other prey earlier and she wasn't hungry or she just didn't want the bird. He gave up in the end and flew off with it.

Beautiful shots as usual, do you think that's a fledgling that it got off the ground rather than flying?

Looking at some of the other images I'd be inclined to think this was a fledgling but seems little early for that. As to species, it wasn't that big and colouring looked a bit like robin.

Many thanks for comments. Based on when I first saw an egg the first hatching should be in 7-10 days.
