      Nice shot Ant.

      Trev, we have them all the time in the garden (along with house sparrows), I’d have posted a pic if I’d known! As a by-the-by, by observation it would appear that they go about with the gold finches as the two always seem to appear and go together.

        In Devon they are a relatively rare breeding (with only about a dozen or so recorded nesting sites) species and sighting are quite infrequent. You only need to look at a UK distribution map to see how sparse their distribution is down here. I don't discount you have them in your garden, if you are within the species stronghold.

          Certainly not a bird I've seen in my local area.

          Quite a population round the visitor centre at Bempton.

                    Yep, I had to look at it closely to see in fact it was behind the bird and not in front.
