I hate it when no one bother to reply so - first try posting at 800px wide as its much easier to look at. I think they would both work better cropped close to just a head shot to get rid of the background distractions and wasted space and then a boost in contrast to make them stand out more

Do like number two, its a thought bubble caption shot in the waiting. Agree touch more contrast would help.
