Looks well exposed Nathaniel but the composition doesnt quite work with the horse being central

One way of keeping the grass down.

Could chop some of the right hand side off, making a square crop, gets the horse into two thirds of the frame and still keeps him/her facing into the shot. Do hope that makes sense, feel free to ignore.

Surely, that would be animal cruelty!

Stan, I can crop a bit off the left so that the horse "moves" more towards the left. Will that be better?

No you've got it the wrong way round, the subject should always be walking / looking into the frame and not out. The crop would be better from the right

I think if you cropped the sky out, as it grabs my attention, and crop the bottom just above the dark green thistles.

Thanks Paul,David,Andy. It appears that there is more to photography than simply composing and taking a picture. Never thought that cropping played such an important part!!

As long as the horse remains then Nathaniel has a "winner"

Best to get the composition right in camera but if for some reason you cant, then cropping is the ideal way to sort it
