      I dont think you have done too bad Alex better than my efforts with a couple I saw at Blashford the other week, mind you the wind was blowing a bit

        Tom, for what it is worth it is not exactly common in the UK, but not that rare either, though this depends on where you are. I don't think it appears in the US at all. It is called the bee orchid because the petal has evolved to look like a female bee, which attracts the male, which is one of its pollinators. As it happens, this one was in a corner of someone's garden, which they had left to go wild for the last couple of years. Whether it had been lying dormant or was seeded from elsewhere we don't know.
        Stan, thanks for your comment. Luckily I had a fairly still day, so I can't blame that. I'm hoping to go back to the site next year with a more appropriate lens.
