    The first of next year's?

Always think of the flowering of this plant as marking the start of the next year's flora rather than the end of this. It's the Winter Heliotrope, Petasites fragrans.
Can't decide whether I like the flower on black or on white -

Both 50D + EF100mm Macro. Any views or comments?

The plant is related to the Butterbur, with heart-shaped leaves, and the specific epithet "fragrans" decribes its lovely marzipan/vanilla smell - nice to have some fragrance in the garden at this time of year. Grows in dampish places.
Excuse lack of d.o.f. in trying to show the whole thing - dull day and too windy to use a slow shuuter speed -

    This one with the 24-105L.

    Cheers, Chris.
    Just chuggin' along.

I confess that I prefer it on the black background, really shows up the colour and the hairs on the stem. Beautiful looking flower.

Black background is a much more dramatic shot.
