    HCT - Tawny Eagle

Some good weather and light at HCT today particularly for the morning flying. 3 shots of the tawny eagle. The last one with the food shot following his attempt at a catch in mid air - more often than not he misses

Superb - can't pick a favourite, I keep trying for BIF but to date have not got one good sharp shot, has to be the settings (or I'm just not meant to get them)

HCT has been an excellent place to practice and try and perfect BIF. I have made around 60 - 70 visits over the past 4 years, so have had plenty of practice. The settings on the shots were 1/2000, f 5.6, ISO 800 with my 70-200 f2.8 + 1.4x at around 160 mm

Thanks for that Stan, mental note made and will give it a go.

PS: now picked a favourite - #1 as the wings hide the tether's on it's feet

Stephen - Near Andover, on the A303, just before Stonehenge if you're travelling west!

Stan - great set! I think this Tawny Eagle is called Frodo, isn't he? #1 is my favourite, with the wing detail caught very well. Very sharp shot... envious! HCT is on my list for another visit or two in 2012... only been there once, when I had an unofficial master-class from Colin C! Great place for BIF's... being a bird centre!

                    All the best, Mike.

                      Where is HCT ?
as Mike says its near Andover - web site -our local equivelent to ICBP but not such a vatiety of birds and much harder to get shots in natural looking surroundings
I think this Tawny Eagle is called Frodo
thats right and his party trick is to catch food thrown up in the air by the falconer and he nearly always misses, apart from yesterday
