Strange i was working on something very similar to Ian this afternoon and giving my new home made backdrop/diffuser a try out - its an old picture frame with greasproof paper over the glass on the rear - it seems to work very well. With the bubble, I wanted to get some shots with the bubble actually resting on the water rather than attached to the rim of a glass, so rather the use the big tank where i would have to chase the bubble around to position it and then watch it scoot off to the other end, I used a large wide coffee cup (around 5 " diameter), the advantage being i knew i had positioned the cup so that the water drop would land in the middle, so that made it easier to position the bubble, and if the bubble moved, it didnt have far to go.
So lighting for this was one flash behind the backdrop with a dark blue gel, one flash 90 degrees to the drop on the left, with yellow gel and barn doors and the third flash opposite, with mauve gel and snoot with honeycomb grid - and for good measure, blue food colour in the bottom tank and yellow in the top
